The Dark Side of Freemasonry

Updated: Mar 1

Freemasonry is a societal organization in which members recite vows, oaths, and promises as a requirement of membership. According to the report of many past Freemasons, this organization is known for secretive fellowship gatherings. Frequently called “the Craft,” Freemasonry comes in many forms, sects, or groups for both male and female members, including the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Order of the Eastern Star, and Knights Templar.

Beliefs of Freemasonry include affirmation of a supreme being or “grand architect of the universe” (GAOTU). This being is not unique to one religious worldview but is represented in many religious views such as Islam, Hinduism, and Eastern religions. In the chart below, I have listed several beliefs of Freemasonry in comparison to what Scripture affirms as truth:

BELIEF

CHRISTIANITY

FREEMASONRY

God

There is only one God. We worship Him alone. To worship other gods is considered idolatry.

There is one supreme deity. Varying religions acknowledge the same deity but by different names. God has many names and is universal.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God and the Savior of the World. We are to pray in Jesus’ name and live according to His commands.

Jesus is equal to the gods of the world and other religions. He is known by many names in many religions.

Salvation

Jesus became sin for us by paying the price for our sins on the cross, with His blood and His life.

To join a Freemason group, you must reject Jesus as exclusively God. You must focus on your ability to do good and empower yourself.

Scripture

The Bible is God’s Word. It is authoritative in every way.

The Bible is one of several religious books. It is not authoritative but equal to other religious works.

Humanity and Sin

All humanity has a sinful nature. We all need a Savior due to our inability to become righteous.

Man is not sinful but constantly improving. Humanity possesses the ability to move from imperfection to total perfection.

The negative influence of Freemasonry directly opposes the teachings and doctrine found in God’s Word. Due to this opposition to God’s standard of holiness, I advise all Christians to flee from connection with any group or organization that aligns or associates with Freemasonry in any form.

Questions to Ask:

  1. When did you first begin to notice the effects of Freemasonry in your life?

    1. Are there ties to Freemasonry in your family line? (dad, mom, grandparents, extended?)

  2. Has anything happened in your life that caused you to feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit on this matter?

  3. Do you have any ideas or thought patterns that caused you spiritual and emotional difficulty/conflict?

  4. Have you been exposed to or participated in any groups or organizations with ties to Freemasonry?

  5. Are there any areas in your life that may be out of your control?

  6. Are there any lies you believe about God’s Word, your identity in Christ, or God’s promises to you that may be influenced by Freemasonry?

Connected Influences: False religion, Hinduism, Islam, Jabulon, Baphomet, confusion, torment, chronic illness, cable tow, dagger, hoodwink.

Scriptural Truth:

“A man who makes a vow to the Lord or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do.” (Numbers 30:2)

“You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the Lord. 34 But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. 35 And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool. And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. 36 Do not even say, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. 37 Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:33-37)

“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)

“You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too.” (1 Corinthians 10:21)

“But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.” (James 5:12)

How to Pray for Breakthrough from Freemasonry:

You may pray aloud, using each step below:

  1. REALIZE: "Lord, I confess (negative influence) is an area that limits my walk with You. Would You show me the first time I experienced this?"

  2. RELEASE: "Lord, who I need to forgive for influencing this in my life. I choose to forgive (name of person) for (what they did or failed to do). It made me feel (share your emotions with the Lord). I release them from any debt they owe me and repent for judging them. I choose to bless them."

    1. "Lord, do I need to forgive myself for how I responded to this negative influence?”

    2. "Lord, am I holding onto judgment or unmet expectations of You because of this negative influence?"

  3. REPENT & RENOUNCE: "I repent partnering with (negative influence). In the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce my agreement with (negative influence). I choose to hand this to You.”

    1. Lord, I also renounce my agreement with (any connected negative influences).

  4. RECEIVE: "Lord, what do You want to give me in exchange for the negative influence I have given You?"

    1. What truth do You want me to walk in, based on Your Word, Your promises to me, and my identity in Christ?" (Write down and give thanks for the truths that you received from the Lord!)
