Deliver Me from Defiance: The Fight for True Freedom from Rebellion

The negative influence of rebellion directly challenges God’s authority as it expresses a primary resistance to His will. Throughout the Bible, rebellion is often associated with a hardened heart that rejects God's commands in favor of self-reliance, self-rule, and independence. The first manifestation of this negative influence occurred in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. It has been evident throughout history in numerous acts of defiance against God's divine and righteous order. Rebellion is not just outward disobedience but can also be an inward attitude of defiance, where individuals refuse to submit fully to God’s authority over their lives. This negative influence fosters an attitude of stubbornness, as it prevents us from walking in the obedience and freedom that God intends for us. 


I have personally witnessed the need to address the negative influence of rebellion, which holds individuals bound by self-will and sin. Freedom and emotional healing from this influence require deep repentance, as rebellion ultimately separates us as a person from God. Scripture reminds us that rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft (1 Samuel 15:23), highlighting its seriousness.


Overcoming the negative influence of rebellion involves recognizing areas of life where God’s authority has been resisted, renouncing that resistance, and inviting the Holy Spirit to renew our hearts toward submission and obedience. True freedom comes when we surrender fully to God’s will, allowing His Spirit to lead and direct every aspect of our lives, which brings us into alignment with His purpose and blessings.

  1. What authorities or leaders has God placed in your life?’ 

    1. What are the qualities of these relationships? 

  2. Have you ever disregarded authority for the belief that consequences don’t apply? 

  3. Describe the emotion you feel after reading this phrase: “Some guidance in the Bible seems unreasonable.” 

  4. When do feelings of rebellion usually occur for you? (Home, work, or church.) 

    1. Do your actions during rebellious times reflect disobedience, insubordination, lawlessness, scoffing, cynicism, or disrespect? 

  5. How would your life look different if you received freedom from rebellion? 

  6. Are there any lies you believe about God’s Word, your identity in Christ, or God’s promises to you that may be influenced by rebellion?  

 

Connected Influences: Confusion, deception, defiance, dishonor, Independence, mistrust, self-reliance, self-sufficiency, strife, scoffing, lawlessness, cynicism, stubbornness, undermining, lack of submission, Jezabel.  


Scriptural Truth: 


“Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”  (1 Samuel 15:23)

How to Pray for Breakthrough from Rebellion:


You may pray aloud, using each step below:

 

  1. REALIZE: "Lord, I confess (negative influence) is an area that limits my walk with You. Would You show me the first time I experienced this?"


  2. RELEASE: "Lord, who I need to forgive for influencing this in my life. I choose to forgive (name of person) for (what they did or failed to do). It made me feel (share your emotions with the Lord). I release them from any debt they owe me and repent for judging them. I choose to bless them."

    1. "Lord, do I need to forgive myself for how I responded to this negative influence?”

    2. "Lord, am I holding onto judgment or unmet expectations of You because of this negative influence?"


  3. REPENT & RENOUNCE: "I repent of partnering with (negative influence). In the name of Jesus Christ, I renounce my agreement with (negative influence). I choose to hand this to You.”

    1. Lord, I also renounce my agreement with (any connected negative influences).


  4. RECEIVE: "Lord, what do You want to give me in exchange for the negative influence I have given You?"

    1. What truth do You want me to walk in, based on Your Word, Your promises to me, and my identity in Christ?" (Write down and give thanks for the truths that you received from the Lord!)
